Galvanizers Inspectors Courses
Hot dip galvanizing is one of the most widely used methods of protecting steel from corrosion. During fabrication and after hot dip galvanizing, the coating is inspected for compliance with the relevant specifications.
The Association has two courses available; our new one day introductory course, which has been designed to provide galvanizing plant operators and newly appointed inspectors with an initial understanding of the concepts relating to the use of hot dip galvanized coatings as applied for corrosion control of carbon steel components.
The course comprises six modules, each approximately 45 minutes, with 15 minutes allocated for question and discussion. The lectures are followed by a one hour examination designed to test course effectiveness. The course is presented as an introduction to the more advanced and detailed three day qualification course for hot dip galvanizing inspectors. Should delegates perform well in the test, they will be invited to attend the Level II course.
As an addition to the introductory course, a special visit to a hot dip galvanizing plant can be arranged on a separate date, should six or more candidates be interested.

The purpose of the more advanced Level II course is to provide delegates with the necessary skills to assess the quality and conformance of hot dip galvanized coatings and Duplex Systems to applicable specifications. The delegate will be introduced to other metallic type coating specifications and their appropriate applications for corrosion control design. Interpretation of the specifications will be examined as well as the application of procedure for determining coating thickness, visual inspection requirements of surface finishes and the application of coatings for corrosion control of carbon steel components.
The Level II course includes visits to a hot dip galvanizing plant and a Duplex Coating facility where delegates will have an opportunity to examine quality standards first hand. Course delegates will be required to undergo a final three part examination, which includes a closed book multiple choice, an open book written section and concludes with a practical test.
Following the Level II course and successful result in a three-part exam, the delegate will be issued with a certificate, and if required, registered as an approved HDGASA inspector. Registration will be confirmed on an annual basis. Successful inspectors will become Individual members of the Association for the year.
Three Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points are awarded to delegates attending the entire Level II course. For more information on the Level II course, please click here.
Bookings for both courses are limited (maximum 10 people) and will be treated on a first-come-first-serve basis. Please note that in order for the course to be viable we require six or more candidates to attend. Arrangements can also be made for the course to be held on your premises for more than six candidates.
