Benefits of Joining the Association
The Association:
- Provides free technical advice to members relating to their galvanizing plant, equipment, process controls, environmental protection and waste minimisation.
- Offers training in numerous aspects related to hot dip galvanizing, some of which are only available to members. Training courses (e.g. a Certified Inspectors Course and Skills development “MERSETA”) are available to members at a substantial discount.
- Provides free assistance to members with respect to quality aspects during fabrication, hot dip galvanizing and site inspections. The Association will investigate and objectively report on coating quality issues without compromising its creditability or professional reputation.
- Offers technical advice relating to specifications, steels suitable for hot dip galvanizing and the optimum corrosive control measures to suit various environments.
- Will develop increased awareness among future engineers, buying authorities and specifiers by way of presentations and plant tours to students from tertiary establishments.
- We identify specific capital projects and applications where hot dip galvanizing has a potential use. By direct involvement as early as the conceptual, planning and design stages, we are invariably successful in selling the concept of corrosion control by hot dip galvanizing to specifiers and decision makers.
- Becomes involved at the design and development stages of all development projects, so as to positively promote the use of hot dip galvanizing in applications for which it is suited.
- Convenes regular member meetings to provide feedback to all members regarding Association activities, new developments and market trends, while providing networking opportunities for its members.
- Participates in the activities of the Corrosion Institute of Southern Africa. This includes the provision of technical papers and presentations at conferences and technical meetings as well as tuition at Corrosion Schools (SAQCC Level II Course).
- Will, where possible, attend international hot dip galvanizing conferences for networking with international bodies and if required, provide technical input at these functions in order to maintain the Association’s established reputation. Furthermore, the Association will make the papers published at these conferences available to members.
- The Association has an extensive technical library for the exclusive use of members.
- The Association provides consistent exposure to the media and other organisations through focused events such as the Awards evening. Galvanizing Member’s names are frequently published in publications, including the magazine of the Association, “Hot Dip Galvanizing Today”.
- Members have access to a database consisting of approximately 5 500 entries, listing people and organizations that are active within the broader corrosion protection industry. The list includes government representatives, NGO’s, Environmental Bodies, end users, consultants, specifiers fabricators and organisations that operate with the corrosion protection industry.
- The tertiary strategic marketing goal of the Association is the establishment (where they do not exist) and the enhancement of liaison and networks with stakeholders and influential players within the market place. These include local governments, NGO’s, Environmental Bodies, The South African Bureau of Standards, SANRA, SAISC, International Zinc Association (South Africa) and EGGA. This goal is based on researching, identifying and forging strategic alliances.
